We are done and dusted with the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as Lahore Qalandars piped defending champions Multan Sultans to lift the elusive title. Cricket fans were highly entertained during the competition as some jaw-dropping battle was on display. While the likes of Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan were among the runs, Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan made the ball talk and took wickets for fun.

In fact, this was Shaheen’s maiden leadership assignment in PSL and he embraced the challenge with brilliance. With 20 wickets in 13 games, the left-arm speedster just didn’t finish as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker but also took his side to a maiden title. Besides him, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman and Shoaib Malik are the other local players who enjoyed a gala time.

IPL and PSL – Two of the most prominent T20 competitions
Among foreigners, the likes of Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Rashid Khan and Tim David were impressive. All these names will also be in action in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which gets underway on March 26. Meanwhile, IPL and PSL are two of the most popular T20 competitions going around. With India and Pakistan being arch-rivals in the cricket arena, comparisons are often drawn between the T20 leagues of both nations.

While featuring in IPL is in the wish list of most players, PSL has taken giant strides in recent years. It must be noted that Indian players aren’t permitted to feature in overseas T20 leagues. On the other hand, Pakistan players don’t feature in IPL amid political tension between the two nations. Hence, fans and experts often debate about the quality of cricket in both competitions.

Overseas players, who have featured in both leagues, have also given their take on which league is better. Meanwhile, prize money plays a huge factor in franchise competitions. While there are prominent overseas players in both PSL and IPL, there’s a massive gap in the prize money of the two tournaments. While Lahore Qalandars have received PKR 80 million (INR 3.40 crore approx) for winning PSL 2022, the winner of IPL 2022 will get a whooping INR 20 crore.
